Setting this space aside for videogame articles/thoughts. I'm not a huge gamer, but I do like some games.
Dwarf Fortress
Dwarf Fortress is a game I've been in love with ever since the 40d release (and explains all the Cutebolds). I don't play it as obsessively as I used to, but I am the creator of the latest Kobold Kamp iteration for the Steam release onwards! You can find it here. If you have DF on Steam, it's on the workshop! Both releases are updated at the same time. There's some other stuff too on my workshop if it tickles your fancy.
Dominions
Hoo boy, where to begin. Dominions plays more like an electronic boardgame instead of a traditional videogame, and where Dwarf Fortress can be seen as complicated with a steep learning curve Dominions is an incredibly complicated series of systems within systems which lead to incredibly complex and granular mechanics. It's a turn based strategy game with the basic premise that the Overgod, the Pantokrator, has vanished. You are a Pretender, a sufficiently powerful individual to claim Godhood for yourself and seek to destroy or pacify all other Pretenders to ascend as Pantokrator yourself. Known for absolutely insane battles, magic and horrible world ending disasters often brought about by the players. It's made entirely by a pair of history teachers, and you can grab the latest one on Steam if you're curious!
Vintage Story
I talk about this game a little bit on my about me page, but Vintage Story is a survival crafting game which split off from a Minecraft mod a long time ago. It's now its own game, and takes place in a world with an eerie past and some temporal funny business going on. It's got more survival elements than the game it came from, and survival isn't just some brainless activity you have to take care of so you can go into the nether or similar. Food has to be foraged, grown or taken from animals and many things want you dead (and are quite capable of pulling it off!) I play it with some friends occasionally, though we're currently waiting for the big Lore Update coming this quarter. If you like Minecraft-like games, this is one I can't suggest enough. You can find it here.
Boomer Shooters
I seem to have a thing for the classic run and gun shooters dubbed by many now as "Boomer Shooters." My absolute top favorite is Memoirs of Magic, an Indie shooter built on GZDoom with a fun, light hearted setting full of magic (and a few cute playable characters.) It's also multiplayer, but I've always struggled to avoid desynchs when I play it with friends. Fair warning, it's also very difficult and you'll probably want the guide- there's some frustrating stuff later on otherwise. I tend to lean towards the ones that seem to be packed with magic it looks like. Hexen/Heretic give me a fun feel of old school fantasy romps. I play Blood and Ultrakill too on occasion. A friend of mine gifted me Amid Evil recently, which has also been fun.
